Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups warm water
- 4 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
- 1/4 cup turbinado sugar or honey
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (plus a little to spread on the )
- 6 1/4 cups unbleached white flour or 6 cups whole wheat flour (or you can also make a mixture of both, 3 cups white flour and 3 cups whole wheat flour).
Preparation
- Mix warm water, yeast and sugar in a large bowl.
- Add the salt and oil. Add the flour one cup at the time and mix until a slightly sticky dough is formed but it still comes off the bowl.
- Knead for 7-8 minutes.
- Put the dough in the same bowl greased with a little oil and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it rise for 1 hour.
- Take out the dough and knead it for a minute. Divide the dough in two.
- Form the dough to put it in the bread pans, if you like you can leave a portion to make 6-8 hamburger buns.
- Cover the dough in the pans with a cloth and let it rise for another hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Bake the bread on the rack a little below the middle for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool before slicing.
