1/4 cup vegetable oil (plus a little to spread on the )
6 1/4 cups unbleached white flour or 6 cups whole wheat flour (or you can also make a mixture of both, 3 cups white flour and 3 cups whole wheat flour).
Preparation
Mix warm water, yeast and sugar in a large bowl.
Add the salt and oil. Add the flour one cup at the time and mix until a slightly sticky dough is formed but it still comes off the bowl.
Knead for 7-8 minutes.
Put the dough in the same bowl greased with a little oil and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it rise for 1 hour.
Take out the dough and knead it for a minute. Divide the dough in two.
Form the dough to put it in the bread pans, if you like you can leave a portion to make 6-8 hamburger buns.
Cover the dough in the pans with a cloth and let it rise for another hour.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Bake the bread on the rack a little below the middle for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool before slicing.
