Herb Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of dry yeast tsp.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, minced, or 2 teaspoons dried rosemary
  • a pinch of garlic powder
  • a pinch of oregan powder
  • a pinch of dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups of white flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour

Preparation

  1.  In a large bowl, mix the hot water, sugar, and yeast. Let the yeast activate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Add the salt, rosemary, garlic powder, oregano, basil, and olive oil and mix.
  3. Also add the wholemeal flour first, and then the wheat flour. Knead until a dough can be formed.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, adding more flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  5. Place the dough in the container where you started the process with a little flour on the bottom to prevent it from sticking.
  6. Cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let the dough rise for an hour.
  7. Knead the dough again and in a round shape, put it on a greased and floured baking sheet.
  8. Let it rise again, covered, for 45 minutes before putting it in the oven. It will double in size.
  9. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
  10. Once the dough has risen, place it in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the bread is golden brown on top.
